Six years inside Bermuda’s Office of the Ombudsman cultivated my understanding of public accountability from the ground up. My work began on the front line of complaint handling as a Complaints Assistant, moved into investigations that held public bodies to account, and later expanded into strategic project work that strengthened the internal systems the office relied on. That progression offered me a rare view of accountability from every angle: the person trying to be heard, the institutions responsible for delivering services fairly, and the standards that hold those institutions to account.
That range now shapes my practice: care, patience and respect for people trying to be heard in difficult circumstances, paired with the systems, submissions and frameworks that make an organisation consistent, transparent and defensible. Many people specialise in one aspect of that work; I have built my career across all of it.
Precision sits at the centre of my approach: noticing errors, inconsistencies, blurred distinctions and missing authority that can undermine a process, a decision or a submission. That attention to detail helps compliance documents withstand scrutiny and makes institutional decisions easier to explain. This work matters to me because institutions owe people an honest account of themselves, and I'm good at seeing where that account doesn't hold.
Originally from Bermuda and now based in the UK, I work remotely with public bodies, accountability organisations and charities across time zones. I'm currently reading for an LLB in Law with Business at the University of Essex, building on the grounding that years of public-accountability work have given me. Alongside my solo practice, I collaborate with brand strategist and designer Laura Ann Bell as DesignLABxKA on annual reporting for third and public sector organisations.
My credentials include specialist training in ombudsman practice through York University’s OsgoodePD (Osgoode Hall Law School) and Governance and Management Services International (GMSI) UK, investigations training through Workplace Institute, and corporate governance training with the Bermuda Branch of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada. Still, the work itself carries the greatest value: systems that keep functioning, decisions that stand up to scrutiny, and accountability structures that remain useful long after the engagement ends.
If my approach sounds like what your organisation needs, I'd be glad to talk it through.
